Unique in basing relativity on the Principle of Equivalence of Gravitation and Inertia over Riemannian geometry, this book explores relativity experiments and observational cosmology to provide a sound foundation upon which analyses can be made. Covering special and general relativity, tensor analysis, gravitation, curvature, and more, this book provides an engaging, insightful introduction to the forces that shape the universe.

Unless r is large i. Pseudo gravity can also be simulated by constantly accelerating at 1g, with the difference that bodies indeed "fall" to the ground, while a rotating spacecraft will create a pseudo-gravitational pull for those bodies in contact with the surface. I would say a super book. I have read this book and solved for now a few daunting problems in Physics by applications of the content in this book.
My research is available on my website but for context I recommend this book for serious practising physicists. Aug 30, Gaurav Chabra rated it it was amazing. Jul 21, Rupa Dutta is currently reading it. I'm using this book not as a text book but as a reference where I need to re-visit my basics.
Good one!! Jun 01, J. Ramirez rated it really liked it Shelves: math , physics. Terse but informative. Read mostly sections for GR course. Jan 01, John rated it it was amazing. It's been a long time since I read it cover to cover during the summer holidays.
One of the great books of the 20th century, with an immense richness of material, beautifully written. Steven Weinberg. Steven Weinberg born May 3, is an American theoretical physicist and Nobel laureate in Physics for his contributions with Abdus Salam and Sheldon Glashow to the unification of the weak force and electromagnetic interaction between elementary particles. He holds the Josey Regental Chair in Science at the University of Texas at Austin, where he is a member of the Physics and Astronomy Departme Steven Weinberg born May 3, is an American theoretical physicist and Nobel laureate in Physics for his contributions with Abdus Salam and Sheldon Glashow to the unification of the weak force and electromagnetic interaction between elementary particles.
His research on elementary particles and physical cosmology has been honored with numerous prizes and awards, including in the Nobel Prize in Physics and in the National Medal of Science. In he received the Benjamin Franklin Medal of the American Philosophical Society, with a citation that said he is "considered by many to be the preeminent theoretical physicist alive in the world today.
Weinberg's articles on various subjects occasionally appear in The New York Review of Books and other periodicals. He has served as consultant at the U. Books by Steven Weinberg. However, I believe that the geometrical approach has driven a wedge between general relativity and [Quantum Field Theory]. As long as it could be hoped, as Einstein did hope, that matter would eventually be understood in geometrical terms, it made sense to give Riemannian geometry a primary role in describing the theory of gravitation. But now the passage of time has taught us not to expect that the strong, weak, and electromagnetic interactions can be understood in geometrical terms, and too great an emphasis on geometry can only obscuret he deep connections between gravitation and the rest of physics

The Sixth International Symposium "Frontiers of Fundamental and Computational Physics", Udine, Italy, September , aimed at providing a platform for a wide range of physicists to meet and share thoughts on the latest trends in various, mainly cross-disciplinary research areas. Such frontier lines were unified by the use of computers as an, often primary, research instruments, or dealing with issues related to information theory. It is shown how finite-temperature effects in a renormalizable quantum field theory can restore a symmetry which is broken at zero temperature. In general, for both gauge symmetries and ordinary symmetries, such effects occur only through a temperature-dependent change in the effective bare mass of the scalar bosons. The change in the boson bare mass is calculated for general field theories, and the results are used to derive the critical temperatures for a few special cases, including gauge and nongauge theories. In one case, it is found that a symmetry which is unbroken at low temperature can be broken by raising the temperature above a critical value.

They then present a mathematically rigorous analysis of solutions near the singular point at the center, deriving the expansion of solutions up to fourth order in the fractional distance to the Hubble Length. Finally, they use these rigorous estimates to calculate the exact leading order quadratic and cubic corrections to the redshift vs luminosity relation for an observer at the center.
